Alice Morton
She was born January 7, 1918 on the family farm near Carpio, in Plain Township of Renville County, to Martin and Oline (Hole) Helseth. She attended a country school near Carpio, graduated from Carpio High School and attended Minot Business College. She worked as a secretary at Minot Feed and Seed, and as a secretary and teller at American State Bank. Alice married Richard E. Morton, of Max, on March 24, 1948. They owned and operated the Snack Shack in Max for a time before moving to southern California. In 1952, they purchased land in the mountains of Colorado and started their own business. They owned and operated the Nifty Nook, which was a café, grocery, and gas station. They retired in 1972 and moved to Carpio where Alice lived until entering assisted living; first at Sommerset Court and later at the Karen Byre Adult Foster Care Home. She became a resident of Trinity Homes in 2002. Richard died November 16, 1994. Alice was a member of Carpio Lutheran Church and the WELCA. She was an avid collector; she collected stamps, post cards, thimbles, and spoons. She and Richard also collected Big Band era records. She enjoyed quilting and craftwork. Family: Alice is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including cousins in Norway. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Helen Anderson and Lottie Helseth; and brothers, Conrad, Rolf, Maynard, Stanley, Richard and Orvin Helseth. Funeral: Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Homes Chapel, Minot.
