Alice Solar
June 9, 1927 – September 26, 2009

MOHALL – Alice Irene Solar, 82, Mohall; died Saturday, September 26, 2009, at a Mohall nursing home.

Alice was born June 9, 1927, in Velva, to William and Hazel (Reed) Coffin.  She was raised in Velva and attended school there.  She married Donald Read August 23, 1944.  She received her Standard Teaching Certificate in 1950 and taught at country schools around Velva and near Lansford.  Her husband, Donald, died in June of 1955.

Alice moved south of Mohall with her two daughters where she taught for two years at Clay Center School.  Alice married Carl Solar August 28, 1957; to this union, two sons were born.

Alice began teaching at the Mohall Public School in 1966.  She also attended classes in the summer and evenings and received her college diploma from Minot State University in May of 1974.  In the fall of 1974, her eyesight began to fail and Alice retired from teaching.  After they retired, she and Carl spent many winters at their home in Las Vegas.  Alice entered the Good Samaritan Society nursing home in Mohall in July of 2002 as her eyesight was totally gone.

Alice was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall, where she taught Sunday school for many years.  Alice enjoyed crocheting, knitting, baking, bowling and playing music.  She taught herself to play the organ.

Family:  loving husband of 52 years, Carl; daughters, Nan (Richard) Becker, Minot; Donita “Dee” (Dave) Klassy, Mohall; sons, Bill (Michelle) Solar, Virginia Beach, VA; Terry Solar, Chandler, AZ; grandchildren, Don (Kim) Becker, Eagan, MN; Michelle (Randy) Nations, Breckenridge, CO; Misty (Mark) Lundgren, Auburndale, WI; Chriss Klassy, Antioch, CA; Ryan Solar and Kelly Longoria, Virginia Beach, VA; and Heather (Paul) Mozley, Kailua-Kona, HI; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Alex Becker; Megan, Maddie and Haley Nations; Katie, Carl, Kimmie and Joshua Lundgren; and Alyssa Miller; sisters, Ruth Solar, Mohall; Hazel (Jack) Rogers, Velva; brothers, John Coffin, Hazen; Frank (Rosie) Coffin, Maple Valley, WA; Sid (Ardy) Coffin, Minot; and numerous nieces nephews and cousins and in-laws.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Lola and Loren Netzloff; brother-in-law, Lawrence Solar; and sisters-in-law, Jane Solar and Janice McLain Coffin.

Funeral:  Friday, October 2, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall

Family Service:  Thursday, October 1, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home
