Byrle Stewart
She was born April 23, 1925, on the family farm in Prosperity Township, rural Sherwood, to Herman and Alma (Holte) Hanson. She was baptized and confirmed at Prosperity Lutheran Church. She attended grade school at North Prosperity and graduated from Sherwood High School in 1943. She attended Minot Business College and worked at the offices of Gamble Robinson Co. and Maytag Electric, both Minot. Byrle married Robert J. Stanley on January 6, 1946. Robert was in the military so they lived at Camp Rucker, AL; Walker AFB, Roswell, NM; and Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, SD. She worked as a cashier at several base exchanges. They had three children, Owen Russell, Rondi Lou and Raymond J. Robert died in May of 1956 at the U.S.A.F. Hospital in England. Byrle and her children returned to Sherwood where she worked in the Superintendent’s Office at the Sherwood Public School for many years. On July 1, 1966, Byrle married Donald G. Stewart. They lived and farmed in Eden Valley Township, Renville County, and she also worked at MTI in Mohall for ten years. Byrle was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood, and was the church treasurer for many years and was involved with the Lutheran Ladies Aid. Byrle was recently honored for 63 years in the American Legion Auxiliary. She served many years as the Secretary of Citizens United to Save the Valley. Byrle enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, spending time with family and friends, and most of all, being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family: husband of 43 years, Donald; daughter, Rondi (Richard) Kosel, Fargo; son, Raymond (Cheryl) Stanley, Minot; grandsons, Brad (Christi) Kosel, Seattle, WA; Jeff (Sara) Kosel, New Hope, MN; granddaughters, Kristin Kosel, Minnetonka, MN; Danielle (Travis) Podbilski, Lacy, WA; great-grandchildren, Cash Kosel, Seattle, WA; Jake Skare and Sofie Kosel, New Hope, MN; brothers, Orlin M. “Bill” (Lola) Hanson and Robert Hanson, all of Sherwood; sisters, Bonnie Lillemon, Minot; and Erlyne (Carl) Jahn, Rochester, MN; and several cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews. Byrle was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Alma Hanson; first husband, Robert J. Stanley; son, Owen Russell Stanley; brothers, Glen M., Donald F. and Orlin B. Hanson; and sisters, Wilma U. Schumacher and Dora L. Watts. Funeral: Monday, July 6, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood Burial: Sherwood Union Cemetery Family Service: Sunday, July 5, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at the church Visitation: Sunday 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church.
