Charles Gillstrap
January 29, 1932 – December 11, 2009

Charles "Charlie" GillstrapMOHALL – Charles J.H. Gillstrap, 77, Mohall; died Friday, December 11, 2009, at a Burlington adult foster care home.

He was born January 29, 1932 on the Gillstrap homestead near Lansford to Roy A. and Viola (Homann) Gillstrap.  In 1942, they moved to a farm east of Mohall where he attended the Cut Bank Township School.  He worked for Jay Reed on his farm prior to entering the service.

Charlie served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954.  Following his honorable discharge, he returned to North Dakota and worked on the Obert Asheim farm. 

Charlie married Barbara Bruder July 17, 1958.  He held various jobs through the years, including the Mohall Creamery, City of Mohall and retired from the State Highway Department in 1997.  In addition, he helped local farmers and also farmed his own land.  Barbara died February 27, 1998.

Charlie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the George T. Taylor American Legion Post #52, both Mohall.  He enjoyed playing bingo and blackjack.

Family:  children, Glen Gillstrap and Brenda (Jerry) McIntyre, all of Mohall; special friend, Eleanor Homann, Devils Lake; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Roy W. (Wilma) Gillstrap, Lansford; Gene (Pat) Pfefferkorn, Mohall; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Wayne; and stepfather, Carl Pfefferkorn.

Funeral:  Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall

Family Service:  Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at Brose Funeral Home, Mohall

Burial:  Lansford Cemetery

Visitation:  Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
