Dagny Foss
May 27, 1916 – August 11, 2009

SHERWOOD – Dagny Marcella Foss, 93, rural Sherwood; died Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at her home.

She was born May 27, 1916 in Rockford Township, Renville County, to Nels and Emma (Johnson) Evanger.  Her family moved to Marsden, Sask., where she attended school.  She returned to North Dakota and helped her sister, Inga, with her family.  Dagny later worked for Andrew Foss cooking for the threshing crews and housekeeping.  It was through this job that she met her future husband, Roy Foss.

Dagny and Roy were married November 7, 1939 in Mohall.  They lived and farmed in Prosperity Township, Renville County, for 47 years until Roy’s death in 1986.  She continued to live on the farm with her son, Ivan.

Dagny was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood, and a former member of Prosperity Lutheran Church before it closed, and a member of the “old” Prosperity Ladies Aid and loved their meetings.  She enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, knitting, crocheting doilies, embroidering dish towels and making hardangar tablecloths.  She loved to make quilts and many have enjoyed them.  In Dagny's younger years, she enjoyed spending time with her sisters and their families.  Dagny has four grandchildren whom she kept in sweaters, slippers and quilts; she loved to have them come and stay with her.

Family:  daughters, Annis (Don) Young, Spokane, WA; Nora (Arlyn) Keith, Sherwood; sons, Cecil Foss, Coon Rapids, MN; Ivan Foss, rural Sherwood; grandchildren, Andrew Keith, Hazen; Marcella and Alicia Keith, Fargo; Stacy (Mike) Aasen, Bottineau; great-grandchildren, Meghan, MJ, Morgan and Madelyn Aasen; sister-in-law, Mae Evanger, Marsden, Sask.; brother-in-law, Casper Knutson, Kenmare; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dagny was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, Avis; sisters and their spouses, Inga (Ted) Knutson, Sylvia (Norman) Mugaas, and Orvis Knutson; brothers and their spouses, Norman, Elmer (Emma), Gordon and Idor Evanger; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Alvin and Louise Foss, and Ruth and Clinton Cook.

Funeral:  Friday, August 14, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood

Burial:  Evanger Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Kenmare
