Florence A. Nelson
She was born September 15, 1913 in Eden Valley Township, Renville County, to Andrew and Eva (Hagstrom) Magnuson. She graduated from Eden Valley High School and attended Minot State Teachers College and earned her standard teaching certificate. She had many dear college friends, seven of whom she had a yearly reunion with. She taught school for seven years. She loved teaching her students and she kept a relationship with many of her students throughout the years. Florence married Walter G. Nelson June 5, 1944 at First Lutheran Church, Minot. They lived and farmed in Wheaton Township, Bottineau County, and raised their three children, Gregory Paul, Donna and Stan. Walter went to heaven on January 12, 1988. For the past twenty years, Florence lived in Minot and was recently living at Edgewood Vista. Florence was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood, and attended First Lutheran Church, Minot. She enjoyed playing whist and pinochle with her friends at the Moose Club and Senior Center. Family: daughter, Donna (Jim) Eggert, Austin, TX; daughter-in-law, Donna Nelson, Burlington; grandchildren, Angelyn Tomes and Matthew (Sirja) Eggert; Stacy (Stewart) Opland, Josie (Josh) Sundsbak, and Stormy (Dave) Getzlaff; great-grandchildren, who called her “G.G.,” Madison, Peyton, Clayton, Xander, Gunnar and Winter; several nieces and nephews who were so special to her. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, Gregory Paul and Stan; her nine-year-old grandson, Andy; sisters, Helen Nelson and Dora McLean; and brothers, Harry, Victor, Elmer, Albert, Cliff, Ted and Arnold Magnuson. Funeral: Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood Burial: Union Cemetery, Sherwood, in the spring Visitation: Saturday two hours prior to the service at the church.
