Judy Hamel
September 6, 1948 – November 19, 2009

MOHALL – Judy Eileen Hamel, 61, Surrey, formerly of Minot and Mohall; died Thursday, November 19, 2009, at a Minot hospital.

She was born September 6, 1948 in Minot to Jack and Alvina (Shong) Sommers.  She attended school in Glenburn, Tolley and graduated from Mohall High School in 1967.  She attended a business school in Minot for a time.

Judy and Larry Hamel were married September 26, 1968 at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Mohall.  They lived in Upham and returned to Mohall where she worked at the Legion Club, Paragon, Renville-Bottineau Memorial Hospital and the bowling alley.  She also was a housekeeper for various people.

Judy and Larry moved to Minot in 1993.  She worked for the Minot Vocational Adjustment Workshop at one of their assisted living facilities.  She retired in 2004.  They continued living in Minot and more recently in Surrey.

Judy loved camping, card games, solitaire, yahtzee, visiting her family and watching her grandchildren’s activities.

Family:  husband of 41 years, Larry, Surrey; children, Bradley Hamel, Surrey; Donald (Jennifer) Hamel, Minot; Nichol (Derek) Pollary, Hibbing, MN; grandchildren, Brandon, Emily and Taylor; sister, Amy (Donald) Hendershot, Sherwood; stepfather, Harold Keith, Mohall; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral:  Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall

Family Service:  Today, November 23, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at the church

Burial:  Sunset Memorial Gardens, rural Minot
