Lavonne Thompson
She was born July 26, 1917 in Greene, the daughter of Franklin and Minnie (Slaughter) Yale. She was raised on the family farm and attended the Grassland Township School. Lavonne married Russell Thompson June 3, 1937. They farmed in Callahan Township, Renville County, for many years. Russell died January 25, 1974. Lavonne continued to reside on the farm until moving into Carpio in the early 1990s. Lavonne entered the Baptist Home in Kenmare and was a resident of ManorCare Health Services in Minot since 2003. Lavonne was a member of Carpio Lutheran Church, the CLCW and the quilters group. She was a member of the Callahan Brighter Hope Homemakers Club and the Carpio Birthday Club. Family: sons, Vernon (Bernadine) and Curtis (Darlene), all of Carpio; and Darrell (Joanie), St. Stephens Church, VA; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Lavonne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Larry; grandson, Robert Thompson; great-grandson, Richard Jager; brothers, Harold and Fred Yale; and sisters, Bessie Peterson, Maxine Bengston, Rose Shong and Clarice Balogh. Funeral: Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Carpio Lutheran Church Family Service: Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at the church Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, rural Minot Visitation: Tuesday 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church in Carpio.
