- Martin Gilmore Gulson, 98, of Minot, was born into Eternal Life Oct. 1,
2008.
Martin was born September 28, 1910 in Renville County, son of Albert and Jennie (Larson) Gulson. He was raised in Mohall and graduated from Mohall High School in 1929. In 1934, he became a partner in Trutna’s Department Store in Mohall.
He married Marjorie Tanberg July 8, 1935. He served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in San Diego, CA from 1944 to 1946.
In May of 1950, Martin relocated to Bottineau to manage Bottineau Trutna’s Inc. Martin was active in both communities of Bottineau and Mohall. In Mohall, Martin was a councilman and trustee of St. Jerome Catholic Church. He was a member of the Bottineau Chamber of Commerce, school board, and the Knights of Columbus. Martin was also a member of the Small Business Association and President of the Merchant’s Association. In Minot, he participated in the Elks, Eagle, and Moose organizations.
Martin retired in 1978 after selling the Trutna Department Store. He would winter in Arizona and return to Lake Metigoshe in the summer. In 1988 he married Marie Swenson. They traveled to Arizona in the winter and return to Minot in the summer. In 2005, they entered Trinity Nursing Home. Martin lived life to the fullest enjoying painting, dancing, card playing and storytelling.

Step grandfather of Patricia, Tom, Bill, David, Alecia, Becky, Andrea, Barbara, and Marisa Swenson. Great-Grandpa of John (Veronica Pilltatzke); David, Jr., Alicia, Emily, Nicole, Dustin (David Pillatzke); Maxwell and Shelby Anne (Deborah Carney), Henry Smith (Nina Smith), and Great-Great-Grandfather to Hailey Anne Pillatzke (David Jr. Pillatzke).
Preceded in death by his loving wives Marjorie Gulson, Marie Swenson Gulson, and beloved daughter, Niki (Gulson) Pillatzke.
Funeral: Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at 10 a.m. at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Mohall.
Prayer Service: Today 7 p.m. at the church
Burial: Mohall Community Cemetery
