Marvin J. HelgesonMAXBASS – Marvin J. Helgeson, 85, Lansford, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at his daughter’s home in Highland, Utah.

He was born September 18, 1924, near Grano, to Engvald and Anna (Johnson) Helgeson.  He was raised on the family farm in Mount Rose Township, Bottineau County, and attended the Mount Rose Township School.  It was in grade school that he learned to play the violin.  He was also active with 4-H during his youth.

Marvin married Vivian Teigen May 10, 1947, in Plentywood, MT.  For many years, he did agricultural work for area farmers in addition to farming his own land and raising cattle.  He retired in 1987.  Vivian died September 29, 1991.  He continued to live on the farm until April of this year when he moved to his daughter’s home in Highland.

Marvin was a member of English Lutheran Church, Maxbass, and the Lansford Senior Citizens.  He loved to play many musical instruments, especially the violin.  He also played the mandolin, keyboard, and was self-taught on the accordion.  In his younger years, he was a member of local bands, the Prairie Ramblers and the Troubadours.

Family:  daughter, Lorrie (Vic) Godsey, Highland, UT; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Lou Bertsch, Minot; brothers, Emil (Helen) Helgeson, Lansford; Gaylord, (Darlene) Helgeson, Minot; Marlan (Beverly) Helgeson, Grand Forks; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Larry; and sister, Sylvia Johnson.

Funeral:  Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at English Lutheran Church, Maxbass

Burial:  Grano Cemetery
