Mildred Ness
October 12, 1922 – May 23, 2009

Mildred (Lund) NessMildred “Millie” Georgia (Lund) Ness, 86, of Minot and formerly of the rural Mohall area; died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at her home. 

Millie was born on October 12, 1922 near Mohall to Nels and Martha (Hanson) Lund.  She was the youngest of six children.  Millie graduated from Mohall High School in 1940 and went to Minot Business School in Minot before coming back to work at T.P. Clifford Insurance in Mohall.

She married Monrad Ness, of rural Tolley, on October 12, 1945, at Hamerly Lutheran Church.  Together, they farmed for 50 years in Hamlet Township of Renville County. They had four sons: Alan, Loren, Monte and Daniel, all of whom graduated from NDSU.  Millie and Monrad moved to a house in Minot in 1999, and to The View senior living facility in 2007.

Millie was a member of, and on the council of, Hamerly Lutheran Church as well as teaching Sunday School and being active in the Ladies Aid for many years.  She and Monrad were currently members of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot. She also was a charter member in the Hamlet Homemakers as well as the Good Samaritan Nursing Home Auxiliary in Mohall.  Her kind and loving spirit along with her lefse, caramel rolls, and potato klub will be missed.

Family:  husband of 63 years, Monrad; sons, Alan and his wife, Mary Jo, Underwood; Loren and his wife, Jan, Minot; Monte and his wife, Jeanette, Eden Prairie, MN; Daniel and partner Peter Tomai, Coronado, CA; grandchildren, Marisa (Chris) Thomas, Miranda, Austin, John and Alex Ness; and great-granddaughter, Avery Thomas.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Elmer, Clarence, and Raymond Lund; and sisters, Margaret Sorensen and Luella Lund.

Funeral:  Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot

Family Service:  Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hamerly Chapel at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall.

Burial:  Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at 3:30 p.m. at the Hamerly Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Mohall

Visitation:  Tuesday, May 26, 2009 from Noon to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home

Memorials:  Memorials preferred to the Hamerly Cemetery Fund, Our Redeemer’s Christian School or Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
