Orvin Helseth
Orvin was born May 2, 1923 in Carpio, the youngest of nine children born to Martin and Oline (Hole) Helseth. He attended country school near Carpio and graduated from Carpio High School in 1941. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in January of 1945. He completed his basic training at Parris Island, SC, was stationed in Pearl City, HI, and served as a PFC on Ford Island. He was honorably discharged in September of 1946. He returned to farm on the family farm north of Carpio for many years in Plain Township of Renville County. He retired in the mid 1990s and moved to Minot in 1997. Orvin was a member of Carpio Lutheran Church, the Clarence McCormack American Legion Post #195, Donnybrook, the Sons of Norway and the Scandinavian Heritage Association. Family: sister, Alice Morton, Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Orvin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Conrad, Rolf, Maynard, Stanley and Richard Helseth; and sisters, Lottie Helseth and Helen Anderson. Memorial Service: Thursday, December 11, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Carpio Lutheran Church, Carpio.
