Philip Feland
He was born June 20, 1913 on the family farm near Antler to Gabriel G. and Minnie Marie (Tennyson) Feland. He attended the Sherman School and helped on the family farm. In addition to farming, they raised silver fox, cattle and sheep. Philip married Marie Ethel Hizer October 22, 1936, on the Hizer homestead near Stanley. They farmed in the Antler area for many years, retiring in 1966. They moved to Mohall and he worked as a truck driver for the ND Highway Department for ten years, and later for Ward Williston Company. They retired and moved back to the farm, and in 2006, they moved to Bottineau. Marie died May 7, 2006. Philip was a life member of the Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Antler, where he served on the church cemetery board. He was also a member of the Sons of Norway, a board member of the Federal Land Bank and a fifty-year member of the Minot Elks. Philip also enjoyed working with horses. He took pride in the fact that he could break horses that others couldn’t. Family: children, Phyllis (Duane) Zimmerman, Antler, Gale (Donna) Feland, Bottineau, and Lucinda (Chuck) Greathouse, Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Joni (Mike) Cruff, Minot, Jay (Karen) Zimmerman, Minot, Jesse Zimmerman, Antler, Julie (Wayne) Olson, Bottineau, Traci Feland, Cortland, OH, Greg Feland, Bottineau, Monica (Gerald) Lucero, and Jeff Tunnell, all of Albuquerque; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Minnie Nelson, Mohall; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Olive Spooner, Stanley, Mercedes “Mickey” Houston, Modesto, CA, Hazel and Cliff Neether, Stanley, Lucinda and Dick Trekkel, Kansas City, MO, and Ammon and Marlene Hizer, Nevada, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Philip was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters, Selma Thompson, Gilma Larson and Olga Ribe; and brothers, Enoch, Art, Gilbert, Edwin and Filip. Funeral: Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Antler Burial: Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church Cemetery Family Service: Monday, August 2, at 7:00 p.m., at Brose Funeral Home, Mohall Visitation: Monday 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
