Violet Stewart

Violet StewartSHERWOOD – Violet E. Stewart, 81, of Sherwood, died Sunday, April 26, 2009, at a Minot hospital.

She was born April 14, 1928 in Carievale, Sask., Canada to Clarence and Irene (Ritter) Baker.  She was raised on the family farm and attended Fife country school outside of Carievale.

Violet married Virgil Stewart on August 12, 1947 in Kenmare.  They farmed the Stewart homestead in Stafford Township, Renville County, for many years.  Virgil died July 5, 2004.

Violet was a member of the Sherwood Garden Club and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  In addition to being a wonderful cook, she enjoyed riding her three-wheeler, playing Yahtzee and cards games, working cross word puzzles, and bird watching.  Violet had a kind and giving heart; she placed the needs of others before her own.

Family:  daughters, Donna Nelson and Ione (Stu) Sautner, all of Minot; Sherry (Craig) Elsberry, Sherwood; grandchildren, Stacy (Stewart) Opland, Josie (Josh) Sundsbak and Stormy (Dave) Getzlaff; Jessica (Esen) Howell-Onur, Celestine Sautner and Katlin Sautner; Peggy Elsberry and Jeffrey Elsberry; great-grandchildren, Gunnar Opland; Madison, Peyton and Xander Sundsbak; Winter Violet Getzlaff; Sophia and Ella Onur; and Sara Elsberry; sister, Rosemarie (Walter) Newman, Oxbow, Sask.; brother, Eugene (Sarah) Baker, Melita, Manitoba; and her four-legged companion, Snoopy, the dog.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law, Stan Nelson; sister, Maxine Brethour; brother, Luellan Ritter; and good friends, Inga and Shorty Gilbertson, and Lillian and Chester Bussma.

Funeral:  Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood

Burial:  Rosehill Cemetery, rural Norma
